Aaron Rai Secures Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in Thrilling Play-Off Battle Against Tommy Fleetwood

The 30-year-old golfer demonstrated remarkable composure to secure the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the final day, defeating Tommy Fleetwood in a dramatic playoff following a rollercoaster final round of competition.

The Englishman nailed a decisive birdie putt from just over eight foot to seal the victory, echoing his only previous tournament triumph at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a playoff win against the same opponent.

Sunday's Play Drama

The champion started the final round with a one-shot advantage over fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Danish golfer Højgaard. He ended up with a overall score of twenty-under after a topsy-turvy, 67 final round that featured seven birdies and a pair of bogeys.

The challenger moved a stroke ahead with two holes to play after a birdie on the 16th, but his rival tied it up again on the seventeenth and then missed a 10-foot birdie putt to claim victory on the final green.

That set up a playoff at Yas Links where Rai prevailed to claim the title and $1.5 million (£1.13 million) in prize money.
